Your child wears the lenses overnight while they sleep. The lenses gently reshape the surface of the eye so that by morning, they can see clearly throughout the day without glasses or daytime contact lenses.
Yes. Ortho-K has a strong safety record and a low risk of infection when cleaning instructions are followed. Kids actually tend to be more consistent than adults at lens care, especially with a parent involved in the routine.
Yes. There is strong clinical research showing Ortho-K is one of the most effective treatments available for slowing myopia progression in children.
There may be a little awareness of the lenses in the first few nights. As the cornea begins to adapt, most children find the lenses feel very comfortable quite quickly.
Most children notice improvement within the first few days, with full clear vision typically achieved within two to four weeks. This can vary slightly depending on their prescription.
We fit children as young as eight. Younger kids may need a parent's help with inserting and removing the lenses at first, but most become independent as they grow.
Ortho-K works best for prescriptions up to -6.00 of myopia with less than -1.50 of astigmatism, which gives the most predictable results. In our clinic we have treated myopia up to -10.00 and astigmatism up to minus -4.00. Higher prescriptions are always assessed case by case.
Not at all. Ortho-K has been commercially available for around 30 years and is used by millions of children around the world. It is well established and thoroughly researched.
Yes. We are recognised by major health funds including HBF, Medibank, Bupa, HCF, HIF, NIB, and others. The rebate amount will depend on your specific policy and extras cover.
Your child's first appointment is fully bulk-billed to Medicare with no out-of-pocket cost. All follow-up appointments are included in the Ortho-K package. If you ever come in for a standalone review outside the package, there is a $150 fee per visit.
The typical schedule runs at one day, one week, one month, three months, six months, one year, and two years after fitting. We tailor this to your child's progress, so some kids need a little more or less along the way.
We recommend replacing lenses every 12 to 18 months with good care. Even if the lenses still look fine, we suggest replacing them at least every two years, since they are worn every single night and a fresh pair is always better for your child's eyes.
I help parents give their child clear, glasses-free vision and stop their myopia from getting worse, faster than they thought possible.
I've helped hundreds of Perth families ditch the glasses and take control of their child's myopia progression using proven Ortho-K night lenses treatments, and get results their previous optometrist never offered them.
